  Pilates.... is a whole body conditioning system that is a holistic path to well-being, strength and vitality.

Joseph Pilates brought together the best of Eastern and Western exercise philosophies:  A balance of breath, relaxation and mind/body connection along with whole body muscle tone, strength, flexibility and endurance.


All exercises are performed with precision, mindfulness, and concentration.  Breath is foundational and brings relaxation, rhythm and flow to the movement.  We become better in tune with our bodies and begin to move more safely and efficiently in all areas of our life:  Walking, working and enjoying recreational activities.


 This is a very accommodating program with modifications available for all ranges of exercise.  Pace is set and assists are used for any physical limitations. Each person is viewed individually and care is taken to provide just the right path for the individual.


 This unique, balanced blend of strength and flexibility training improves posture, washes away stress, teaches deep mind/body connection and creates long, strong, lean muscles without bulk.  


 In Pilates, we are working several muscle groups at once, smoothly, evenly, with special focus on the core muscles strengthening and stabilizing as a foundation for every movement.


 Balance is Key!  We feel better after a Pilates workout!  Full of energy, vitality, feeling more relaxed and renewed.  This is because we focus on quality of movement over quantity so that no muscle group is overworked and the body is worked holistically, efficiently.  As Joseph Pilates said of his work: "it is not a fatiguing system of dull, boring abhorred exercises to repeat ad nauseum." !


 These exercises are performed on the mat or on various specialized Pilates equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Springboard and Ladder Barrel.  We also use various accessories such as the Magic Circle, foam rollers and balls for trigger point release/self massage.  See Photo Gallery for examples of some of this work!
